Bipartisan legislation to increase icebreaking capacity in Great Lakes introduced

WASHINGTON, D.C.– United States Senator Gary Peters of Michigan introduced the Great Lakes Winter Commerce Act, bipartisan legislation to codify the United States Coast Guard’s icebreaking mission on the Great Lakes and increase icebreaking capacity of the Great Lakes fleet.
Icebreaking is critical for commerce in the Great Lakes, and increasing icebreaking capacity will help the many businesses and workers that rely on the maritime industry to transport their goods to market and grow the regional economy. Peters introduced the legislation with Senators Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Todd Young of Indiana.
