Tree-killing invasive insect found near Michigan's Torch Lake

LANSING, MICH. – The hemlock woolly adelgid, an invasive insect that threatens millions of Michigan’s native hemlock trees, has been discovered near Torch Lake in western Antrim County, according to the Michigan Invasive Species Program.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recently verified the new detection, which had been reported by a landowner, noting the extent of the infestation has not yet been determined but that an extensive survey of the surrounding area is underway.
